Pingdom (now part of SolarWinds) has been around since 2007 and is one of the oldest names in uptime monitoring. It does synthetic monitoring (uptime, transaction, and page speed checks from multiple locations), real user monitoring, and has a solid track record with large enterprise customers. It is also expensive, does not have a free tier, and does not do visual screenshot diffing.

Where Pingdom wins
Pingdom has genuine depth. Transaction monitoring (scripted multi-step checks using a real browser) is included, which is useful for testing login flows and checkout paths. Real user monitoring shows you how actual visitors experience your site by performance segment and geography. Multi-location checks from dozens of global locations. Long history, enterprise support, and the backing of SolarWinds. If your organisation needs something that procurement will recognize by name and that comes with formal SLAs and compliance docs, Pingdom is the answer.
Where GrabDiff wins
Visual screenshot diffing. Pingdom does not take periodic screenshots and compare them pixel-for-pixel to catch visual regressions. If your page renders blank after a deploy or your CDN starts serving a cached error with a 200 status, Pingdom's uptime check passes and you find out from a user.
GrabDiff also has a free tier, includes SSL, domain, and heartbeat monitoring on all plans, and costs less. Pingdom's entry price is around $15/mo with no free tier. GrabDiff is $0 to start, $9/mo when you need more.
